The Sound Mill: A Creative Hub in Downtown Squamish

Located in downtown Squamish, right next to the Estuary, the Sound Mill is a space for artists, musicians, and the community to come together. Originally envisioned as a full-scale community arts and music production facility, the project has since been scaled back to a more intimate event space, with a strong emphasis on community outreach.

Our vision is to create an inclusive and inspiring environment. We plan to host regular art openings featuring work created at the Sound Mill, along with music events that explore world music, experimental electronic sounds, invented instruments, and percussive theatre.

Workshops are a key part of our programming, with collective members offering a range of sessions—from children’s art and family percussion workshops to poetry, advanced percussion, and electronic music workshops.

The Sound Mill is designed to be a fun, welcoming playground where the unusual and misunderstood can find community, expression, and the opportunity to shape both themselves and the wider Squamish culture.

William Wallace spend many years singlehandedly welding, insulating, drywalling and painting the 12 permanent cargo containers on site into a habitable space. As soon as the outer shell of the building is built the space will be converted into an event space run by the non-for-profit Sound Mill Art Society. Below are some photos of the building in different stages of construction.
